Volvo is known for creating some of the worlds most comfortable vehicles.  The new 2008 Volvo XC70 is recognized as one of the greatest improvements to this vehicle line.  There are many advanced safety features within this vehicle, as well as an innovative six-cylinder engine.  This vehicle has proven itself to be popular among families, as well as with young professionals.

The exterior of the XC70 has been revamped from past versions.  The hood of this vehicle has a unique bulge to it that is unlike any of the past versions.  There are unique hazard lights featured on the bumper of this vehicle.  The vertical taillights give this Volvo a fashionable, yet conservative, appearance. The car rests on 16-inch wheels, which are expandable up to 18-inches.

The suspension has been raised, giving the XC70 a rougher appearance.  This vehicle is comparable to the V70 wagon, but the 2008 XC70 also features all-wheel drive, which is something the V70 does not.  While this isn’t one of the most eye-catching vehicles, it is a unique change from the family minivan.  For a similar sized wagon, you would have to purchase a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or the Audi A6 Avant.  Yet, these vehicles do not feature the upgraded design of this Volvo.

The interior of this vehicle is based around ergonomics and true refinement.  There are plenty of features within the cabin to keep passengers and drivers busy.  The doors are finished with leather and padding, which make them incredibly soft.  The steering wheel is wrapped in leather, but it isn’t too bulky.  There is also a nicely padded armrest in the center consol, but the seats are what stet this vehicle apart.

Drivers of this Volvo will notice the seats are extra cushioned, making them comfortable for driving around town.  However, the back support on the seats are lacking, thus making long trips slightly uncomfortable.  The dashboard is quite simple, yet still holds onto elegance that has made this vehicle so popular.  The trademark “floating stack” console has remained, making Volvo enthusiasts quite happy.

This vehicle features a 235-horsepower six-cylinder engine, which is quite a lot of power for a wagon.  The automatic transmission smoothly shifts into gears, making highway and city driving more streamlined.  The XC70 can get 15 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.  Since this is a large all-wheel drive vehicle it receives a decent MPG.

The breaking system within the XC70 has been noted as one of the best.  There isn’t any gripping, which keeps the car from jerking to a stop.  The break response from the driver is fluid, which makes stopping extremely smooth.  This isn’t a performance-related vehicle; however, it drives very well for a wagon.  There is little wind noise and road disturbance is kept at a minimum.

Volvo’s are known for having a loose steering sensation, which many car enthusiasts have complained about for years.  They have revamped their steering departments and it is not as “disconnected” as past models have been.
