Fiat’s Cinquecento model received a total of 385 votes an international jury and has thus been voted as ‘The Car of the Year 2008’. The jury that voted for the car consisted of journalists who were motor specialists, from 22 nations in Europe.
In the league, the Cinquecento was followed by Mazada’s 2 that secured
the position of the first runner up with 325 votes and Ford’s Mondeo,
which came third, with a total of 202 votes. The competition was
clearly close. Apart from this, the Fiat’s model managed to secure
votes from 57 of the 58 members of the jury. 33 of the 57 went on to
include it as their favorite car. Each of the judges had a total of 25
points that were to be distributed. Of which a maximum of ten could be
awarded to a particular model. The other four contesting models
included Peugeots 308 (with 97 points), Mercedes C-class (with 128
points), Nissan Qashqai (with 147 points) and Kai Cee’d (with 166
points).
The Cinquecento is expected to go up for sale in the UK only in the
next year. The double door car will be sold at prices beginning from £
7,900. However, the car, has already, managed to capture a total 14
percent market share in the European markets. The car is available in
12 colors and has 3 engines, along with four trim levels. This is
infact the 12th car from Fiat that has won ‘the car of the year award’
since Fiat was established in the year 1964.
