The latest cars are designed to meet the requirements of environmentally conscious youngsters who wish to do away with the noisy and oily contraptions of the past. Majority car manufacturers are turning to green production and introducing eco friendly models of cars, wherein there will be maximum utilization of fuel. Alternative energy sources are being used to bring down the carbon dioxide emissions. The eco friendly cars are designed in such a way that the fossil fuels can be replaced completely and the efficiency of the diesel and gasoline engines is enhanced. The alternative fuels can be CNG, LPG, diesel, E85, electric powered batteries or solar powered batteries. The eco friendly cars should economize the use of fuel and reduce air pollution by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

The eco friendly cars will have increased fuel efficiency. These cars can be classified into hybrid and non-hybrid vehicles. The hybrid vehicles are costlier than the non-hybrid ones. The hybrid vehicles are generally featured with gas-electric powertrains. The non hybrid eco friendly cars also reduce use of fuel and emission of CO2.

The consumers are showing enhanced interest in hybrid vehicles and expect a lot of fuel economy from these vehicles. Actually, the consumer needs to understand the technology and its advantages and must keep only realistic expectations. The top 10 environment friendly cars as per a study of JD Power and Associates in 2006 include Acura RSX, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Cobalt, Ford Escape Hybrid, Ford Focus, Ford Focus Wagon, Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, Honda Civic and Honda Civic Hybrid.
