The need for a small sized economy car in India is hard pressed. All metropolises in India are bursting at seams with large number of vehicles leading to congestion, parking problems and so on. The economic standards of Indian people have gone up strikingly and majority population can afford to buy some form of transport. People are looking for smaller and cheaper options of cars. There are many major auto manufacturers like Hyundai, Tata Motors and Bajaj which are studying the possibility of introducing a small cheap car for India. Hyundai Motor India is working out the feasibility of producing a smaller economy model car to face the tough competition in the auto industry. The company is thinking of pricing the car between Rs 1 lac to Rs 2 lac. The research and development division of the company at Hyderabad is researching out the details. Tata Motors Ltd is also launching a small cheap car in 2008 in the Indian market at a price of Rs 1.25 lac. Renault is teaming up with 2 wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto for making a small cheap car for India at the price range of Rs 1.5 lac. Honda Motor Company has expansion plans in the Indian auto market, but will not be making a small car in the near future. The small cheap car for India will be a boon for the customers in India as they will contribute to reduction in traffic chaos. One can hope that the small cheap car will be a fuel efficient and economy personal transport solution.
